Former Oregon Duck, and Sheldon Irish quarterback Justin Herbert has become the NFL’s highest-paid player after reportedly agreeing to a five-year $262.5 million contract extension with the Los Angeles Chargers. Herbert, entering his fourth season with the Chargers, will have an average annual salary of $52.5 million, slightly higher than the Baltimore Raven’s Lamar Jackson at $52 million. Herbert is the second Sheldon of Eugene/UO quarterback to reach the pros. Chris Miller achieved All Pro status before an injury sidelined his NFL career. In Oregon’s upcoming Fall Camp, another Sheldon QB is on the roster, Brock Thomas. He led the Irish to second place in the 6A Division his senior season under former Marshfield Coach Josh Line. Line, who played for the Pirates, was a fullback in quarterback Joey Harrington’s Duck backfield. Thomas is the son of former Marshfield quarterback Aaron Thomas who went on to play as a defensive back for Oregon. Preseason camp for the Ducks begins August 2nd.
