Fourteen Oregon public schools have until 2017 to pick new mascot names for the schools. The Oregon Board of Education has voted to reaffirm as earlier ruling banning Native American-themed mascots at the state’s public schools. Board members unanimously rejected a proposed amendment that would allow some of the schools to keep their names. The ruling will impact the Reedsport Braves, Rogue River Chieftains, Roseburg Indians, Scappoose Indians, Philomath Warriors and nine others.
