News release from Newport PD. On Tuesday, 12/01/2015, at approximately 6:00 p.m., Newport Police Officers responded to a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian. The victim had been struck while attempting to cross Hwy 101 at SE 2nd Street. Police Officers arrived and found that the female victim was not in a crosswalk when she attempted to cross the highway. She was struck by a red hatchback-style vehicle, possibly a Honda Fit. The name and age of the victim will not be released at this time. She suffered minor injuries for which she was treated at Samaritan Pacific Community Hospital in Newport. The suspect vehicle in this incident might have slight damage to the right side.
