On Thursday, February 17, 2022 at approximately 2:03 AM, Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a report of a person down on the shoulder of Interstate 84 near milepost 18. Preliminary investigation revealed Mazda RX8 was eastbound, operated by Alexander Lee (23) of Saint Helens, and failed to negotiate a curve at Exit 18. The vehicle left the roadway, went through the brush, coming to a stop approximately 100 feet off the Interstate. Investigators believe Lee walked eastbound from the location of his crash and was struck by a passing vehicle. The vehicle did not remain on scene. Lee was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. The Oregon State Police are seeking public assistance with information identifying the driver or vehicle.
