Hit & Run, Oct. 17

News release from the Coos Co. Sheriff’s Office. On October 15, 2014, at about 1645 hours, Coos County Sheriff’s Deputies and Officers from the Myrtle Point Police Department responded to Lampa Lane, west of Myrtle Point, at about milepost 1.5 in response to a report of a hit and run crash involving a Honda Accord and a Chevy Van. Deputies learned the suspect had left in the van heading towards the community of Arago west of Myrtle Point. The vehicle was located at Arago boat ramp but the driver had fled. The driver of the vehicle was located on foot nearby; he was identified as 40 year old David Elbert. As a result of the investigation, Mr. Elbert was arrested for Fail to Perform Duties of a Driver with Property Damage and Reckless Driving. Mr. Elbert was additionally cited for Driving While Suspended – Violation. David Elbert was transported to the Coos County Jail. The damage to the victim’s vehicle, 59 year old David Matthews of Coos Bay was estimated to be in excess of $1500.00.
