HMSC considers Student Housing, June 10

The lack of affordable rentals on the Central Oregon Coast at Newport has officials at the OSU Hatfield Marine Science Center considering building their own student housing. The HMSC is located on the south side of Yaquina Bay next to the NOAA Pacific Marine Operations Center, Environmental Protection Agency, and the Oregon Coast Aquarium. HMSC Executive Director Bob Cowen told the Newport City Council that the university initially would construct a 150-bed apartment building, and add another later to bring the total to 300-beds.
