Holiday Kickoff Downtown Coos Bay, Nov. 27

The Coos Bay Downtown Association reports that Santa was just sited over Alaska and is headed south to arrive in Coos Bay on Friday, November 27th at the Coos Bay Boardwalk. His estimated arrival is between 5:45 pm and 6:00 pm depending on prevailing winds. Once arriving in the bay area, he will hop on a tug boat provided by Billeter Marine and Pacific Tug Company and ride down the bay to the Coos Bay docks. Spot lights are encouraged! After arriving, he will meet Coos Bay Mayor Chrystal Shoji who will then light the Christmas tree. Because Santa’s Arrival is only estimated, Bay Area Teen Idol contestants along with the mayor will lead the crowd in singing Christmas Carols. There will be story-telling, holiday music, snacks and more. Join the fun and sing along while you have a cup of Farr’s True Value Hot Apple Cider. After the Tree-Lighting Ceremony on the boardwalk, Santa will lead the crowd over to the Egyptian Theatre. Santa will find out what the kids want for Christmas. It’s also an opportunity for parents to get a picture of their kids with Santa Claus. The Egyptian Theatre will show the movie “Elf” starting at 7:30. The movie is sponsored by Banner Bank, so instead of an admission fee, movie goers will be asked to bring a pair or two of NEW socks rolled into the shape of a ball for a sock toss during the snowball fight scene in the movie. All socks collected will be donated to local homeless shelters.
