Holiday Traffic Slowed, May 27

An eight-mile stretch of Interstate five near the Lane/Douglas county lines south of Cottage Grove is undergoing new construction.  The project has reduced the two-lane north and two-lane south, to one lane each way.  That, coupled with the heavy Memorial Day Weekend traffic, produced a bottleneck and delays Monday evening, May 26.  News release from the Oregon Department of Transportation.  “SW Oregon: Northbound Interstate 5 motorists should expect long delays south of Cottage Grove, between milepost 150 and 170, throughout the evening due to holiday traffic passing through a one-lane construction zone.  Eastbound OR 38 (Umpqua Highway) traffic is also backed up approaching the Exit 162 (Drain) interchange. Motorists in Reedsport or Coos Bay planning to travel I-5 north should use either OR 126 (Florence to Eugene Highway) or other alternate routes.  Southbound I-5 motorists may experience brief delays tonight south of Cottage Grove.”
