Lane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the report of a residential burglary in the 23000blk of Hwy. 36 on 08/18/2023. Home surveillance video captured images of a male and female suspect making forced entry into the home. The camera system was then disabled. It was discovered that the thieves stole over $2,000 in personal property from the victim. After retrieving images uploaded to the internet by the home surveillance system prior to it being disabled, deputies were able to identify the suspects as 38-year-old Mathis Raymond Lambert and 44-year-old Kristin Dawn Hiatt. A Lane County Sheriff’s Deputy located Lambert and Hiatt in a vehicle on 08/28/23. The deputy initiated a traffic stop and they were taken into custody without incident. LCSO detectives executed a search warrant at their residence and obtained additional evidence, including evidence of other unrelated identity theft. Both Hiatt and Lambert were lodged at the Lane County Jail. Modern home surveillance systems have proven to become a valuable investigative tool. In this particular case, the suspects disabling the security system once they made entry was immaterial because evidence linking them to the crime had been solidified from the moment they were captured on camera.
