Coos and Curry Counties – Help make a difference in the lives of homeless men, women and children on January 30th. The Annual Homeless Point in Time (PIT) Count is a one night event where volunteers count all unsheltered and sheltered homeless individuals and families across the country. This vital count is used to prevent future homelessness by leveraging resources, and is a requirement of all Continuum of Care Sites by HUD. “We carry out the PIT Count for two reasons,” says Jennifer Spatz, Director of Housing and Emergency Services at Oregon Coast Community Action, “to document the nature and extent of homelessness in Coos and Curry County, and to help build public engagement and action around homelessness.” Along with counting homeless individuals the PIT event also conducts a bed inventory of all available beds for those experiencing homelessness. Volunteers are needed at PIT Count Stations and donations of necessity items (socks, hygiene items, lighters etc.) are welcome.
