Residents of southern Oregon can look forward to better health, thanks to the work of two health care executives – Brenda Johnson, CEO of La Clinica community health center in Jackson County, and Linda Maxon, executive director of Bandon Community Health Center.  The Oregon Primary Care Association (OPCA) has recognized Johnson and Maxon with two of its annual Health Center Leadership awards. OPCA’s awards honor Oregonians who contribute to the success of the state’s network of community health centers. Health centers provide comprehensive, culturally competent primary care to more than 358,000 Oregonians in medically underserved communities.  Johnson won a “Leadership in Transformation” award in recognition of her work as chair of the Jackson Care Connect Coordinated Care Organization (CCO). She has been at the forefront of health care transformation efforts in Jackson County and has strengthened cooperation and reduced competition among community organizations, health care providers and CCOs.  Maxon won a “Growth” award for leading the Bandon clinic through the process of becoming a federally qualified health center. Thanks to her efforts, the clinic will be able to offer more care to underserved residents of southern Coos and northern Curry counties.
