Hwy. 101 Fatality, June 13

On June 10, 2017 at 2:29 a.m., OSP Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a two-vehicle head-on crash, on highway 101 near milepost 14 (Clatsop County). Preliminary investigation revealed a 1984 Chevy Pickup, operated by Christopher Jeremy COSTA, age 23, of Astoria, was northbound when, for unknown reasons, crossed the center line and struck a southbound 2001 Toyota Camry, operated by Kayla Lynn WEBER, age 27, of Seaside, head-on. WEBER was pronounced deceased at the scene and COSTA was transported to Columbia Memorial Hospital in Astoria and later transported by Life Flight to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center for treatment of his serious injuries. There were no other occupants in the vehicles. A single lane of the highway was closed for four hours for purposes of the investigation. Alcohol is being investigated as a contributing factor in the crash. More information will be released when it becomes available as this is an ongoing investigation.
