On February 27, 2016, at about 12:10AM, OSP Troopers and emergency crews responded to the report of a head-on crash on Highway 20 near milepost 1.8 (just outside Newport). Preliminary information indicates a 2012 Subaru Outback was traveling eastbound on Highway 20 when it crossed the centerline an struck a westbound 1995 Nissan pickup head-on. The driver of the Subaru, Jennifer R ROZEWSKI, age 32, of Waldport, received non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport. The driver of the Nissan, Joseph A DAUENHAUER, age 52, of Newport, was also taken to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. ROZEWSKI was arrested once she was released from the hospital for Manslaughter II and Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants. Alcohol was believed to be the contributing factor of the crash.
