Hwy. 22 Fatal, May 28

OSP Troopers are continuing their investigation into a multiple vehicle, fatal crash on HWY 22 east of Gates in Marion County. According to Lieutenant Tim Fox, On May 27, 2015 at about 12:36PM, OSP Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a multiple vehicle motor vehicle crash on HWY 22 in front of Niagara County Park. It was discovered that a 2011 Ford F150, operated by James L MARTIN, age 77, of Silverton, had been traveling westbound on HWY 22 when it attempted a left hand turn into Niagara County Park. At the same time, a 1995 Kawasaki motorcycle operated by Ronald D RIGGS, age 68, of Stayton was traveling eastbound on HWY 22 and struck MARTIN’s vehicle. RIGGS was ejected from his motorcycle and struck a passing boat trailer being towed by a third vehicle. RIGGS was pronounced deceased on scene. Both directions of HWY 22 were blocked while the investigation was conducted. Preliminary information is that MARTIN’s vehicle turned into the path of the motorcycle without yielding. RIGGS was wearing a protective helmet.
