On Saturday, May 9, 2020 at approximately 4:00 P.M., Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a motorcycle crash on Hwy 402 near milepost 2. Preliminary investigation revealed that a Harley Davidson motorcycle, operated by Robert Julian (63) of Kennewick, WA. was northbound on Hwy 402 when it left the road, traveled down an embankment, and into the John Day River. Julian was pulled from the river by his riding companions. John Day and Monument ambulance personnel attempted lifesaving efforts but Julian sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased.
