On December 11, 2015 at about 8:15PM, OSP Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a head-on collision on Highway 97 at milepost 154 (near Sunriver). Preliminary information indicates a 2015 Freightliner was traveling southbound on Highway 97 when the driver lost control on the icy roadway. The truck crossed over into the northbound lanes where it struck a 1993 Ford F350 head-on. The driver of the Ford, David D TAYLOR, age 30, of LaPine was pronounced deceased at the scene. The two passengers of the Ford, Amanda F Porter (age 23) and a 7 year old juvenile male were transported to St Charles Bend for non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Freightliner, Dennis M WOODS, age 30, of Sacramento, California, was also taken to St Charles Bend for non-life threatening injuries. WOODS was cited for Failure to Drive Within Lane.
