On March 6, 2016 at about 8PM, OSP Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a two vehicle collision on Highway 97 near milepost 204 (just south of Lapine). Preliminary information indicates a 1998 Honda Civic was traveling northbound on Highway 97 when it lost control on the icy roadway. The Honda crossed over the centerline and collided with a southbound 1994 Mitsubishi 3000GT. The Honda came to rest along the southbound shoulder of the highway and the Mitsubishi came to rest blocking both lanes of travel. The driver of the Mitsubishi Justin R GUY, age 22, and his passenger Allen REEVES, age 21, (both from Klamath Falls) were transported to Sky Lakes Medical Center in Klamath Falls for non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Honda, Michael MCKAIN, age 49, of Santa Clara, California, was pronounced deceased on scene (name being withheld pending notification to the family). The highway was closed for approximately 3 1/2 hours to allow the investigation to be conducted.
