I-5 Accident in Marion Co., May 29

According to Lieutenant Tim Fox, on May 27th, 2015 at about 6:10P, OSP troopers responded to the report of a crash involving two commercial motor vehicles on Interstate 5 near Milepost 263. Troopers responded and found that a 2001 Kenworth tractor pulling tankers, operated by William FERREL, age 54, of Scotts Mills, had crashed into the rear of another vehicle. This vehicle was a 2006 Peterbilt pulling trailers loaded with crushed cars, operated by Bovil SMITH, age 66, of Chattaroy, WA. The collision caused the vehicle operated by SMITH to overturn and spill its load onto the highway covering all lanes. The truck operated by FERREL, jackknifed and slid onto the right side shoulder area. All northbound lanes were blocked for hours while clean up and removal of the wreckage occurred. A detour diverted traffic at Brooklake Road to Highway 99 east during cleanup. Marion County Fire and Rescue transported SMITH from the scene to a local hospital with minor injuries. FERREL was issued a citation for Following Too Closely.
