On Saturday, April 10, 2021 at approximately 1:45 A.M., Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a collision involving a pedestrian on Interstate 5 near milepost 270. Preliminary investigation revealed that a Mazda M23, operated by Cassidy Schmidt (19) of Albany, was southbound when it struck a pedestrian in the roadway. It is unknown at this time why the pedestrian was in the roadway. The pedestrian sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased. His name will be released when appropriate.
