I-5 Viaduct deck repairs begin Sunday night, July 19

ODOT release – Close quarters for workers on the I-5 Medford Viaduct – MEDFORD – Northbound I-5 traffic will narrow to a single lane, with a work zone speed limit of 40 MPH, Sunday night, July 21, to start a deck repair project on the Medford Viaduct. Our contractor, Carter and Company, will be on site Sunday through Thursday nights, 8 p.m. – 6 a.m. to perform the northbound deck repairs before cleaning and sealing the road surface. Enforced speeds through the northbound work zone will be set at 40 MPH limit, with a construction advisory speed of 35 MPH. Oregon State Police will enforce work zone speed limit. Portable rumble strips will be used during construction to alert drivers to the narrow lanes and nearby construction workers. “I can’t think of a work zone more dangerous simply because the traffic is so close to the workers,” said ODOT Senior Construction Inspector Shawn Daw. This work is exactly the same as that performed by the contractor last summer in the southbound lanes. Project photos available on the Oregon DOT Flickr album for this project.
