Three Oregon incoming freshmen were in action at the first day of the IAAF World Junior Track and Field Championships, Tuesday, kicking off the events arrival in the United States.  Ariana Washington won her heat of the women’s 100 in 11.67. Washington, who set a personal-best of 11.22 in the event earlier this season said she was able to save a little for tomorrow’s semi-final and finals races, where she has goals of bettering that personal record and making the medals podium. The achievement would be a great start to her career at Hayward field.  American Champion heptathlete Ashlee Moore started the competition by taking second in the 100 hurdles with a personal-best time of 13.59. She followed with another strong event, the high jump, and cleared 5-8 (1.73m) which was ninth and put her to fifth at the end of the morning session.  Raevyn Rogers suffered from an unfortunate collision in the women’s 800 first round. Rogers led a majority of the first lap when her feet were clipped from behind with 500 meters remaining. The incoming freshman stumbled and could not regain her rhythm for the remainder of the race, finishing sixth.  Competition will resume, Wednesday at 10 a.m. Washington, Moore, Christian Brennan and Eugene native Maggie Schmaedick will all be competing.
