An investigation by the Lincoln Interagency Narcotics Team (LINT) led to the arrest Thursday of a Newport-area man on charges related to discovery of an unlawful drug lab inside a garage. On February 20, 2014, at approximately 11:30 a.m., LINT detectives and Oregon State Police (OSP) served a search warrant at 303 NE 10th Court in Newport. The search warrant was specifically for the garage of the residence. People living in the main residence were not involved and had made complaints in the past to Newport Police Department regarding noxious odors coming from the garage. Upon serving the search warrant, LINT detectives found a large quantity of materials used in the unlawful manufacture of controlled substances and methamphetamine. MARCUS EUGENE BURR, age 23, from Newport, was arrested by detectives for Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance – Methamphetamine and lodged in the Lincoln County Jail. Lab site safety officers and detectives worked late into the evening seizing evidence related to a possible MDMA lab and DMT lab. Both are unlawful controlled substances in Oregon. The chemicals and related materials were removed by a hazardous waste contractor from Portland. LINT and the OSP Drug Lab Team were assisted by Newport police.
