City of Coos Bay release – Monday morning, Dec. 14, 2020, the operators at the wastewater treatment plant located at 680 Ivy Avenue, observed a sheen in the wastewater tanks along with a strong petroleum odor. It is believed that a large volume of a petroleum “like” product was discharged (either accidentally or intentionally) somewhere into the sewer collection system. A large petroleum discharge like this disrupts the proper function of the treatment plant and ultimately enters the bay. This treatment plant serves the eastern side of the City including the surrounding area associated with the Hospital, Ocean Boulevard, Englewood, Eastside, Downtown, Mingus Park, and Bunker Hill. If you have any information related to this illegal discharge, please contact City Hall at 541-269-8918 as soon as possible.
