SWOCC release – Coos Bay, OR – Southwestern Oregon Community College invites the community to attend a special event commemorating the rich heritage, resilience, and aspirations of Native communities in honor of Indigenous Peoples’ Day. The celebration will be held in Umpqua Hall on Thursday, October 12th, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. This event is open to the public and free of charge. Distinguished speakers representing the Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua, and Siuslaw Indians, as well as the Coquille Tribe, will be featured at the celebration. Additionally, there will be a video shown about The Elakha Alliance and their efforts in Oregon sea otter restoration. Attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy a curated selection of music videos showcasing Native Artists. Students will also host a voluntary donation table for Lahaina recovery. This event is made possible through the collaborative efforts of the College’s Native Student Alliance Club, Associated Student Government (ASG), and the IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access) committee.
