On February 19th, 2020, at approximately 1850 hours, the Coos County Sheriff’s Office received the report of a trespass at 91133 Cape Arago Highway (the Old General Store) in Coos Bay. The reporting party informed Dispatch that the male, later identified as 19 year old Peter Melnik, has been previously trespassed from the store and was currently refusing to leave. The Deputy requested assistance from the BLM Rangers, who were in the area, to contact the Peter as the Deputy was en route. BLM Rangers and Deputies contacted Peter inside the High Tide Café and requested for him to speak with them outside the establishment. Once outside, Peter gave Deputies a false name, and then ran from the officers towards the water. With the quick response of the United States Coast Guard, as well as Bay Cities Ambulance, Officers were prepared to recover Peter from a small landing in the water during low-tide. Officers were able to get Peter out of the water and he was transported to Bay Area Hospital by Bay Cities Ambulance to be evaluated by Medical staff. Peter was issued a citation in lieu of custody for Disorderly Conduct in the Second Degree, Escape in the Third Degree & Interfering with a Peace Officer.
