A 44-year old male attempted to elude pursuing police by jumping into Yaquina Bay at Newport on Monday morning, March 7. Juan Ricardo Hall was wanted on a parole warrant when an officer attempted to pull him over in a vehicle. Hall allegedly rammed the police vehicle, causing an estimated $10,00 in damages, before fleeing to the Boardwalk and into the bay where he swam to Port Dock 5. Officers located him and charged him with Second & Third-Degree Assault, Assaulting a Public Safety Officer as well as other felony and misdemeanor charges. He was transported to the Lincoln Co. Jail at Newport.
