K9 Track/Vehicle Pursuit, May 14

Barview Rd., CCSO release – On May 10th 2019 at about 8:10 PM, a Coos County Sheriff’s Deputy was on patrol in the Charleston area when a vehicle attempted to strike him head on. The deputy avoided the collision and conducted a U-turn to attempt to stop the vehicle for the reckless driving. The vehicle accelerated to speeds of 65 mph in a residential zone and a short vehicle chase ensued. During the chase the suspect vehicle’s passenger tires both went flat and the suspect, 47 year old Larry Dean Ezekiel Andrews of Coos Bay had to abandon his vehicle near Libby Lane and Crown Point Road. Mr. Andrews fled on foot from the vehicle into some brush on the south side of the roadway. K-9 Odin and his handler pursued the subject and descended an approximately 50 foot cliff on the other side of the thick vegetation. It was later found Mr. Andrews had fallen off the cliff while fleeing. Once at the bottom of the cliff K-9 Odin tracked and located Mr. Andrews hiding in thick brush. A boat responded to the location to pick up Mr. Andrews, as he had sustained an injury from the fall. Mr. Andrews was treated at Bay Area Hospital where he was diagnosed with a broken tibia and torn ligaments from the fall off the cliff. Mr. Andrews had an outstanding warrant for his arrest and is being referred to the D.A.’s Office on several new charges stemming from the vehicle and foot chase. This marks K9 Odin’s 83 (Direct capture) during his career with the Coos County Sheriff’s Office.
