It’s been a busy year for sea lions along the Oregon Coast. Port officials at both Newport and Astoria report overwhelming numbers of sea lions in the water, on the rocks and even on docks. Warmer ocean currents reportedly brought more to the Pacific Northwest than normal. That has also resulted in an increase in Orcas, or Killer Whale, sightings on the Central and North Coasts. According to Renne Fowler, Park Ranger at Beverly Beach State Park north of Newport, Killer Whales have been spotted from Pacific City to Cape Perpetua south of Yachats. They are hunting baby whales, harbor seals and sea lions.
