Lakeside Fatal, Aug. 28

North Lake Rd., CCSO report – On August 27, 2018, at about 12:52 AM, Coos County Sheriff’s Office deputies and the Lakeside Fire Department were dispatched to a single vehicle accident on North Lake Road near South 9th Street. The report was a vehicle was overturned, and two occupants were trapped inside. When the Lakeside Fire Department arrived, a medical examination was done and they declared the driver of the vehicle deceased. The passenger of the vehicle, Valkerye Setting, 43 of Lakeside, was treated on scene for minor injuries and was not transported to the hospital. The investigation’s preliminarily ruling appears the vehicle, a 2003 Toyota Tundra, was traveling east on North Lake RD, when it lost control and went off the road. The vehicle entered a large ditch, which caused the vehicle to overturn on the driver’s side. The driver was partially ejected from the vehicle, due to not wearing a seatbelt. The driver was crushed as he was ejected and under the vehicle as it overturned. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Donnie Mullanix, 39 years old of Lakeside. Next of kin has been notified. Deputies believe a combination of weather conditions, speed and possible intoxication played a factor in the crash. The crash and death remain under investigation. The scene was cleared at 3:13 am.
