Landslide closes OR 36 at Triangle Lake, March 15

A major landslide continues to block OR 36 at milepost 25, two miles west of Triangle Lake. The landslide occurred just before noon on Sunday, March 13, leaving boulders, dirt, and 100 foot trees across the two-lane highway. Hundreds of yards of material will need to be removed to open the road, including trees that are now hanging over the roadway from above. ODOT plans to have a contractor begin clearing the slide on Tuesday. Once the initial slide debris is removed, additional work may be needed to stabilize the slope and ensure that the road can be safety traveled. There is not a detour in the immediate area. Travelers are advised to use alternate routes. The road is closed with barriers at milepost 25.3, Lake Creek Falls parking area, and milepost 24, Fish Creek Road. Message boards have been placed in Mapleton, Veneta, and at major cross roads.
