Come join the Oregon Chapters of the Surfrider Foundation for an evening of shark talk. The regular October meeting of the Newport Chapter will feature an online presentation by Dr. Taylor Chapple on Thursday, October 15 at 6:30 pm. Dr Chapple is a professor at Hatfield Marine Science Center of Oregon State University who has been working with sharks around the world for nearly 20 years. Using cutting edge technology, rigorous science and engaging media platforms, Taylor has been working to use science to change how we think about sharks. Drawing from his research on white sharks in California, Cape Cod and South Africa, He will be discussing how we perceive sharks and the reality behind the hype. Although the presentation is free and open to the public, Newport Surfrider is asking for donations to help victims of the recent fire in Lincoln County. The money raised will go to Echo Mountain Fire Relief. Their focus is on helping families who lost their homes and have been left without resources for recovery. Registration is with Eventbrite at https://shark-talk-taylor-chapple.eventbrite.com. Participants will receive an email with a link to the Zoom meeting.
