Part of the report to the North Bend City Council on Tuesday from City Administrator David Milliron regarding the NB Library and Coos Co. Library System. “The Coos County Library Service District received a $126,500 grant from the K-12 Summer Learning Fund of Oregon Community Foundation to support the Coos County Library Service District’s summer learning outreach programming for children K-12 by funding books, materials, and other programming expenses. This one-time grant program, funded by the State of Oregon, focuses on school-aged children participating in community-based learning, enrichment, and recreation programs offered through public agencies during summer 2021. The North Bend Public Library, along with libraries in the Coastline Network (Coos & Curry counties), was recognized by the United Way of Southwestern Oregon as a community organization that has “gone above and beyond since March 2020.” The nomination for the libraries states, “every library across Coos and Curry has responded to COVID in dynamic and exciting ways. They are finding new ways to educate and promote literacy. I love the take-home kits, online classes, and community discussions.” The library is now operating at its pre-pandemic service level. The library is open to the public Monday – Friday from 10 am – 6 pm and on Saturday from 10 am – 1 pm. The library will be closed on Thursday, June 24th for Staff Development, and from Saturday, June 30th – Monday, July 5th for the Independence Day holiday.”
