Come see what’s new as the Oregon Coast Historical Railway celebrates Coos County Train Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 13, at the group’s museum and display area at 766 S. First St. (US 101 North) in Coos Bay. Admission is free, with guided tours and train-related goodies for the youngsters, as well as free hotdogs, hamburgers, soda, pizza and cake. Come ring the bells! Coos County Train Day celebrates the railroad’s role in development of the west – from the May, 1862 completion of the Transcontinental Railroad in Promontory, Utah, to the 1916 completion of the rail line from the Willamette Valley to Coos Bay. The Oregon Coast Historical Railway operates a year round museum and display area that features steam and diesel engines, three cabooses, two cranes, two pond boats, small switcher engines, vintage Caterpillar tractors, and some massive old logging equipment, along with recent acquisitions and museum artifacts. Also on display will be the Snug Harbor Railroad, a miniature steam railroad that ran in Charleston from the late 1950s to the early 1980s. Call Dick Jamsgard at 541-297-6130 for information.
