Looked like an assault rifle on Central Oregon Coast, Jan. 10

News release from the Lincoln Co. Sheriff’s Office. “On January 8, 2014 at about 5:45pm, a Lincoln County Sheriff’s Patrol Deputy was leaving the east parking lot of the Courthouse in a marked patrol vehicle when he saw a male walking east on the sidewalk of W. Olive Street, Newport, Oregon carrying what appeared to be a military style semi automatic rifle. The male continued walking east and grasped the rifle in both hands, pointed it in front of him, waved it over his head and then pointed it in the direction of passing motorists traveling on West Olive St. The deputy stopped his patrol vehicle and confronted the male at gunpoint. The male placed the rifle and a large fixed blade knife on the ground and was detained. The male was identified as 19 year old Keir Skinner of Newport. Skinner stated he was “walking with his toys” and wanted to see how far he would get. The rifle turned out to be a functional pellet gun resembling a real semi automatic rifle. SKINNER was lodged at the jail on one count of Disorderly Conduct in the first degree. His bail was set at $10,000.”
