Little Theatre on the Bay has been awarded a grant in the amount of $7,500.00 from the Floyd Ingram Charitable Trust of Myrtle Point, Oregon. LTOB is honored to announce that this money will be used towards Phase III of the restoration of the historic Liberty Theatre in downtown North Bend, which includes renovation of the theatre’s lobby. Patrons will enjoy beautiful new carpet, lighting, candy counter and bar area. Additional wheelchair seating will be made more comfortable and accessible in the auditorium and large double doors at the front of the theatre will provide easier entry and exit for show-goers. The majority of the construction is planned for March and April, before the opening of Shrek the Musical on May 4th. Phase IV of the restoration process begins this summer, as plans are developed for a set construction area and new green room for cast and crew, This expansion will make the entire area accessible on one level for anyone backstage with mobility issues. Currently, set construction occurs off-site, and stairs provide impediments for many people. Since 1959, the LTOB has operated and managed North Bend’s historic Liberty Theatre as a performing arts venue serving residents and visitors to Coos County. The restoration project is designed to ensure that the 94 year-old Liberty Theatre’s role as the architectural and cultural hub of the community is preserved and protected in time for its centennial celebration in spring 2024.
