Major Crime Investigation Douglas Co., May 17

On Monday, May 15, 2017, a citizen reported to 9-1-1 that he was walking in the area of the riverbank of the South Umpqua River, near Interstate 5 milepost 108 in Myrtle Creek, when he observed what appeared to be human remains. Officers from the Myrtle Creek Police Department and Deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office responded and confirmed the remains were human in origin. The Douglas County Major Crimes Team has been activated and assumed the investigation. The Douglas County Medical Examiner’s Office will work with the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause and manner of death as well as identification.
