Male dies from Pipe Bomb, March 18

A 46-year old North Bend male died Tuesday after he ignited a pipe bomb in his car at the entrance to the Riley Ranch Campground on Hwy. 101 in the Hauser area. Daniel Perry had been recently evicted from his home and Coos Bay Police were prepared to serve him with a Stalking Order to keep him from having contact with his ex-wife. He reportedly had also gone to Coos Co. Mental Health and told them he was suicidal. Police had attempted to stop him when he pulled into the campground entrance and rolled up the windows to his vehicle. It filled with smoke and eventually burst into flames. Officers backed off when explosions were seen and heard. The Oregon State Police Bomb Squad from Medford responded. Hwy. 101 was re-routed for nearly four-hours during the investigation.
