A 54-year old Coos Bay woman was sentenced to 75-months in prison and 36-months post prison supervision after she pled guilty in a Coos Co. Circuit Court Friday morning, Feb. 20, to Manslaughter in the Second Degree. Original charges of Murder by Abuse and Manslaughter in the First Degree, involving the death of her mother, 87-year old Willa Faye Boren on March 9, 2014, were dismissed. The victim died of septic infection; however, according to a news release from District Attorney R. Paul Frasier, “the infection came about due to numerous and horrendous bed sores the victim developed over the last few weeks of her life. The investigation revealed that Ms. Boren had become bedridden and was basically neglected by her daughter who resided in the same home and who was her mother’s caregiver.” In a report to the DA’s Office from a forensic pathologist for Coos County and a Deputy State Medical Examiner noted “the overall investigation raises significant concerns over neglect and maltreatment.”
