Medical marijuana dispensaries selling recreational products only have a few days left to register with the Department of Revenue and remit the taxes they collected from customers in January. The deadline is February 29. Dispensaries must register so the department can create their tax account. Without that account, the department can’t process their payments. According to the Oregon Health Authority, there are 320 dispensaries selling recreational marijuana, and 245 have registered. Of those 309 dispensaries, 38 have remitted the taxes collected in January–31 by appointment and seven by mail. An additional 60 dispensaries have appointments scheduled through the end of the month. Cash payments are by appointment only. To make an appointment, dispensaries must call (503) 945-8050 at least 48 hours in advance. Dispensaries can set the price for their products, but the price must be determined prior to calculating the 25-percent tax. The temporary 25-percent tax is applied to the retail price of all recreational marijuana products sold by dispensaries through December 31, 2016.
