Marine Board Seeks Written Comment on Newberg Pool Petition, March 16

The Oregon State Marine Board is soliciting written comments on a petition received from a citizen on February 21, 2020, regarding administrative rules (OAR) affecting boat operations on the Willamette River. The Petitioners are asking the Marine Board to “remove the existing surf zones on the Willamette River, Newberg Pool,” and to “open the Newberg Pool up to all water activities, and require wake surfing to be in the middle of the river (300ft), and only in one direction, up-river.” Written comment will be accepted until April 5, 2020, by 11:59 pm. Comments must be received prior to the closure time/date to be considered. Comments can also be submitted by email to osmb.rulemaking@oregon.gov or by U.S. Mail to Jennifer Cooper, Administrative Rules Coordinator, Oregon State Marine Board, 435 Commercial Street NE, Salem, OR 97301. Testimony will not be accepted by telephone.  The Board will meet April 15, 2020, and may make a motion to deny or to accept the petition and initiate the rulemaking process. An electronic copy of the petition is available online at www.oregon.gov/osmb/info/Documents/Rulemaking/Petition_NewbergPool_2.21.20.pdf.
