Marine Board Soliciting Written Comments on Safety and Equipment Rules, March 13

The Oregon State Marine Board is soliciting written public comment on several rules to align Oregon boating laws with recent changes to the Code of Federal Regulations. The rule amendments reflect changes in the U.S. Coast Guard’s personal flotation device labeling system and fire extinguisher requirements on boats. The agency filed Notice of Rulemaking with the Oregon Secretary of State, published in the March 2nd Oregon Bulletin to amend: OAR 250-010-0010 Definitions; OAR 250-010-0154 Personal Flotation Devices; OAR 250-010-0155 Fire Extinguishers; OAR 250-015-0010 Equipment Requirements for Charter Boats and Charter Guides; OAR 250-016-0075 Safety and Equipment Requirements for Whitewater River Outfitters and Guides; OAR 250-016-0077 Safety and Equipment Requirements for Inland Outfitter and Guide Boats; OAR 250-021-0030 Operating Rules; OAR 250-021-0100 Personal Watercraft Livery Operations. Written comment will be accepted until April 1, 2020, by 4:30 pm. Comment can be submitted by email to osmb.rulemaking@oregon.gov or by U.S. Mail to Jennifer Cooper, Administrative Rules Coordinator, Oregon State Marine Board, 435 Commercial Street NE, Salem, OR 97301. Testimony will not be accepted by telephone. The Board will meet on April 15, 2020, and may make a motion to adopt, amend, or take other action with the proposed rulemaking.
