U.S. Marines will once again conduct training exercises on Coos Bay’s North Spit, while also performing maintenance and construction work at Horsfall Campground, Oct. 17-20. It’s the second year that an engineer service company based in Springfield has done the heavy equipment training and outdoor recreational projects in the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area (ODNRA). The Horsfall Beach Campground and the Day Use Area as well as the Bull Run Staging Area will be closed to the public during the training. Work includes leveling new campsites, installing fire rings, picnic tables and signage. Some deemed hazardous trees will also be removed along Horsfall Road.
