He took her to Whaleshead Beach north of Brookings on the South Oregon Coast Sunday, May 10, to propose. On their way home to Southern Oregon, their 2002 Jeep suddenly veered into the left-hand turn lane and collided head-on with a Lexus on the Redwood Hwy. (Hwy. 199), in Gasquet, CA. Twenty-eight year old Melissa Hudson, of Grants Pass was killed and her new fiancée Jake Zeliff was seriously injured. Both were transported to Sutter Coast Hospital in Crescent City, CA where Hudson died and Zeliff was transported on to Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland. He underwent surgery for a brain injury. The driver of the Lexus, Brandon Randow, sustained moderate injuries and was also treated at Sutter Coast Hospital.
