Booster Clubs
The Marshfield and North Bend Booster Clubs meet today at noon.  The Pirate backers will gather at Abby’s Pizza in Coos Bay, while the Bulldogs meet at the high school’s Hall of Champions.  Cost of lunch in North Bend is $7.  Both luncheons are open to those interested in Bay Area high school sports.

Two North Bend football players were named All-State for the 4A classification by the state’s largest newspaper, the Oregonian for the 2013 season.  Senior linebacker Mason Laird and junior defensive back Cam Lucero were named to the Defensive First Team.  The two helped lead the Bulldogs into the state semi-finals.  North Bend junior Aaron Wagner, and senior Zach Wallace, were named to the Second Team Defensive Line and junior Drew Matthews was Honorable Mention defensive back.  Matthews was also a Second Team selection on offense as a wide receiver, while junior Joe Rutheford, made Second Team offensive lineman.

Middle School girls’ basketball for Wednesday, Dec. 18.  4 p.m., Millicoma Green vs. Coquille at Millicoma MS in Eastside.  4 p.m., Sunset Blue vs. Siuslaw, Sunset MS in Empire; 5:30 p.m., Marshfield 8th Grade Gold vs. Siuslaw,  Sunset MS.  5:30 p.m., Marshfield 8th Grade Purple vs. Coquille, Millicoma MS.

Marshfield (1-2) fell in its home opener for the 2013-14 prep boys’ basketball season to visiting 6A opponent Grants Pass in Coos Bay Tuesday night.  The unbeaten Cavemen (4-0) downed the Pirates 50-46.  GP’s JV team also won 50-40.  Marshfield’s girls improved to 3-1 with a 45-37 win at Newport Tuesday night.

North Bend’s boys’ basketball team improved to 2-1 with a 44-31 win at Marist in Eugene Tuesday night.
