Les Schwab South Coast Holiday Basketball Tournament
Marshfield and North Bend’s boys advanced to the championship semi-finals of the 12th Annual Les Schwab Tires South Coast Holiday Basketball Tournament at MHS in Coos Bay Monday. The three-day tourney ends Wednesday and the Pirates and Bulldogs could possibly have a preseason Bay Area Rivalry match if they can beat their opponents today. North Bend plays Newport, a team they beat earlier this month, at 3:30 p.m., while the Pirates play Crook Co. at 7 p.m. North Bend (5-0) beat Coquille in the first round 54-53. Newport downed Molalla 49-41. Crook Co. beat Junction City 50-44. And, Marshfield (7-2) topped Estacada 65-56. The early consolation games in the boys’ bracket have Coquille and Molalla at 8:30 a.m., and Junction City and Estacada at noon. In the girls’ bracket, Marshfield advanced to the championship semi-finals with a 52-43 win over Estacada. The Lady Pirates (7-2) will face Myrtle Pt., a 42-38 winner over Crook Co., at 8:45 p.m. The other side of the bracket has Junction City and Coquille at 5:15 p.m. JC downed Newport 34-29 and Coquille bettered North Bend 58-43. Consolation play for the girls has North Bend and Newport at 10:15 a.m., and Crook Co. and Estacada at 1:45 p.m.
