Les Schwab Tires South Coast Holiday Basketball Tournament
Marshfield and North Bend will play each other in the championship game of the 12th Annual Les Schwab Tires South Coast Holiday Basketball Tournament at Marshfield High School in Coos Bay. Both teams won their semi-final games Tuesday to advance to the finals. It will be the first of three meetings between the Bay Area teams; however, the next two occur in 4A Far West League play. North Bend (6-0) advanced to the final by beating Newport 54-39. The Bulldogs beat the Cubs earlier this season at Newport. Marshfield (8-2) downed Crook Co.68-35 to also reach the finals. The two rivals will play at 2:15 p.m. In earlier consolation semi-final games on the boys’ bracket, Molalla beat Coquille 57-48, and Junction City downed Estacada 56-39. The Indians and Tigers will play for 4th place at 2:15 p.m. in the Harding Gym, while Coquille and Estacada meet at 10:45 a.m. in the Harding for 6th place. The 3rd place game between Newport and Crook Co. is set for 10:45 a.m. in the main gym. On the girls’ bracket, Myrtle Pt. and Coquille will meet for the title at 12:30 p.m. in the main gym. The Red Devils made the finals with a 41-31 win over Junction City, and the Bobcats downed Marshfield 41-36 to get in the title game. Earlier in the consolation semi-finals, North Bend beat Newport 54-52, and Crook Co. bettered Estacada 58-50. The Bulldogs and Cowgirls play for 4th place at 12:30 p.m. in the Harding Gym, and Newport and Estacada play for 6th at 9 a.m. in the Harding Gym. Junction City and Marshfield play for 3rd place at 9 a.m. in the main gym.
