Marshfield upset previously unbeaten North Bend 57-47 in a 4A boy’s Far West League basketball game at North Bend Tuesday night. The Pirates led the entire way in beating the state’s top-ranked 4A team. The two teams could play for a fourth time if both win their final league games on the road Friday night to set up a co-championship. A playoff game would then be held at either school determined by a coin flip to determine the league’s No. 1 and No. 2 teams for the upcoming playoffs. However, both have to win to set up that scenario. Marshfield (8-1, 18-5) plays at third-place South Umpqua (5-4, 15-7), and North Bend (8-1, 20-1) is at fifth place Siuslaw (2-7, 5-13) in Florence. The Vikings won on the road at Winston in handing last place Douglas (0-9, 5-17) a 70-57 loss. South Umpqua won at Brookings-Harbor (4-5, 7-16) 66-54. The Pirates move up to No. 4 in the OSAA 4A Power Rankings with the win. The Bulldogs remain at No. 1, followed by No. 2 Philomath (19-2), No. 3 No. Valley (22-2), No. 4 Marshfield (18-5), and No. 5 Gladstone (19-4).
