Marshfield & North Bend Sports, Feb. 5

Booster Clubs
The Marshfield and North Bend booster clubs meet today, noon.  The Pirate boosters meet at Abby’s Pizza in Coos Bay, while the Bulldog backers gather at the high school’s Hall of Champions where cost of lunch is $7.  Both meetings are open to those who support Marshfield and North Bend athletics.

Brookings-Harbor withstood a challenge from Marshfield Tuesday night in a 4A Far West League girls’ basketball game, but the Bruins prevailed to solidify their hold on second place with a 59-54 win over the visitors from Coos Bay.  The Lady Pirates took a 43-40 lead into the fourth period, but Brookings-Harbor (6-2, 16-2) outscored Marshfield 19-11 to clinch a sweep of the Lady Pirates this season.  Jade Chavez led Marshfield (4-4, 13-7) with 12-points.

Marshfield’s boys took a big step towards clinching a playoff berth with a 52-44 4A Far West League win at Brookings Harbor Tuesday night.  The first place Pirates (7-1, 11-9) led most of the game, outscoring the Bruins (4-4, 11-7) in all four periods.  Hunter Olson led Marshfield with 16-points, while Rylee Trendell had 12 and Austin Howerton 10.  BH won the JV game 66-59.

North Bend maintains its hold on second place in the 4A Far West League boys’ basketball race with a 58-42 win at home over visiting South Umpqua Tuesday night.  The Bulldogs (6-1, 13-5) are half-a-game behind league leader Marshfield (7-1, 11-9) with four games to play in the regular season.  Third place Sutherlin (6-2, 14-5) is just behind the two coastal leaders following a 70-45 win at Siuslaw (1-7, 5-13) in Florence.  Douglas (0-7, 1-15) had a bye.

North Bend’s girls (1-6, 3-13) broke into the 4A Far West League win column Tuesday night with a 45-34 win at home over visiting South Umpqua (1-7, 2-17).  League leader Sutherlin (8-0, 19-0) won at Siuslaw (3-5, 5-13) 64-25, while Douglas (4-3, 8-8) had a bye.
