Marshfield lost its first game of the 2015 prep softball season with a 10-0 win in five innings at Newport Wednesday night. The Cubs, who made it to the state semi-final round two years ago and lost 2-0 to eventual state champion Mac-Hi in the quarter-finals last year, hit the ball well against the Lady Pirates. Marshfield was held to one hit, while the Cubs pounded out 10 hits. The Lady Pirates next host Phoenix on Saturday in a doubleheader starting at noon.

Marshfield opens the 2015 prep track season by hosting nine teams in the annual Icebreaker Meet on Prefontaine Track Thursday in Coos Bay, beginning at 3:00 p.m.

North Bend’s track team opens the 2015 prep season at the Siuslaw Icebreaker meet in Florence today, 4 p.m.

Both North Bend and Marshfield’s girls’ tennis teams travel to Junction City today. The Bulldogs and Tigers play at noon, followed by the Pirates and JC at 3 p.m.
