Booster Clubs
The North Bend and Marshfield booster clubs meet today at noon. The North Bend supporters will gather at the high school’s Hall of Champions where cost of lunch is $7. The Marshfield backers meet at Abby’s Pizza in Coos Bay. Both meetings are open to all who are interested in supporting local high school sports.

Marshfield’s baseball team lost its opener, 12-7, at Hidden Valley near Grants Pass Tuesday afternoon. The Mustangs (1-0) made it to the quarter-finals of the 4A playoffs a year ago before falling to eventual state champion Henley by one run, 8-7. The Pirates opened with a lead of 1-0 in the top of the first Drew James was knocked in from third on a sacrifice to right by DH Victor Lahr. Hidden Valley rallied with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first to take the lead. The Mustangs added two more in the second, before the Pirates scored three runs in the third to tie the game at four. Tyler Campbell had a double, while Andrew Sharp was walked and Lahr reach base on an error. Austin Soria then stroked a shot down the first base line for an RBI. Hidden Valley took the lead for good in the bottom of the third with five runs. Marshfield added three more in the top of the sixth cutting the lead to two, but the Mustangs came back with three of their own to win the game by five runs. Both teams used three pitchers in the game. Marshfield opened with Andrew Sharp, went to Alex Milligan third and Johnny Phillips in the sixth. The Pirates (0-1) next play Oct. 26 at Taft in Lincoln City.

North Bend’s girls downed Marshfield 5-3 in a Bay Area Rivalry tennis match at the William Sweet Tennis Center in Coos Bay Monday. Marshfield Coach Aron Boesl. “Marshfield and North Bend Girls Tennis Teams kicked off the season at the William J. Sweet Tennis Center in Coos Bay. It as the first match of the season for both teams and it was a great start for both schools. The singles teams split 2-2 and with Katie Boesl and Colleen Rayburn wining the number one and two singles and Mckenna Reasor and Renee Thompson winning at number 3 and 4. In Doubles the Bulldogs won three of the four matches with the number four match going into a third set. “I was happy over all to get a match under our belt as the girls were very nervous today. They all learned a lot and North Bend is great competition to start the season.”
